Does this sound familiar?

You’ve tried willpower. The pattern keeps winning.

  • Your mind won’t switch off, even when you’re exhausted.
  • You’ve quit before. More than once. It never quite sticks.
  • Your heart starts racing before you’ve even walked into the room.
  • You’ve started quietly planning your life around a fear.

None of this is a character flaw. These are learned patterns of behaviour: responses your mind now runs on autopilot, often faster than you can think. Hypnosis works with that automatic layer. It’s a focused, relaxed state where you stay aware and in control the whole time.

Why online works

Online hypnotherapy sessions: your sofa, not a waiting room

Online hypnotherapy is one-to-one work by video, instead of face-to-face in a clinic. Hypnosis depends on your attention, not on being in the same room as me. Many people find it easier to relax at home.

  • No travel, no waiting roomJoin from home on your lunch break, after the kids are in bed, or wherever you feel settled.
  • The same help in every stateRegional or city, Perth, Melbourne or Hobart. Same practitioner, same prices, in your own time zone.
  • An audio to take homeAfter your sessions you receive a recording to listen to between appointments, so the work carries on during the week.

All you need

  • A quiet, private room
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera
  • A pair of headphones

Online sessions run on Google Meet, much like a telehealth appointment. I send you a link, and you click it to join. Sessions are private and never recorded unless you agree in writing. If the video drops, I ring you and we carry on.

    15 minutes · free · no obligation
  2. Agree a plan

Many issues suit a 4-session program. Anxiety, trauma and low mood usually need a longer plan we build together.

Who you’ll be working with

Meet Ernest McLeod, the person you’ll work with

I’ve been in clinical practice for fourteen years. Before that I spent twenty years as a software engineer and designer. So I care more about what works than what sounds impressive.

My practice is in Adelaide, and I see clients right across Australia by video. You work with me directly, every session. There’s no handing you on to someone else. I also train other hypnotherapists. My courses on quitting smoking, vaping and gambling count as professional development (CPD), approved by the Australian Hypnotherapists’ Association.

  • Time Line Therapy® Practitioner
  • Fellow, ASCH
  • Trainer: AHA-approved CPD courses
  • Certified NLP Practitioner

Hypnotherapy isn’t a registered profession in Australia, so I’m not AHPRA-registered and I’m not a psychologist. My ASCH Fellowship is voluntary.

Questions people ask first

Common questions about online hypnotherapy Australia-wide

Still unsure? Ask me on the free call, or read the full list of questions.

Does online hypnotherapy really work?

Hypnosis depends on your attention and on what we do together, and both come through a video call. Many people find it easier to relax at home than in an unfamiliar room. Research comparing online and in-person hypnosis directly is still limited, so I won’t quote you a figure. Does hypnotherapy work?

What does it cost? Is it covered by Medicare?

A 4-session program is $1,000 upfront, or $1,200 paid session by session. Quit smoking or vaping is $590 in total. Unused prepaid sessions stay valid for 12 months. You can use them for something else or pass them on. Hypnotherapy isn’t covered by Medicare, and you don’t need a GP referral. Health fund extras cover varies, so check with your fund. Full pricing and terms

Will I lose control?

No. You hear everything, you remember it, and you can open your eyes and stop whenever you like. Hypnosis is focused, relaxed attention. Nothing happens that you don’t want to happen.

How many sessions will I need?

Many issues suit a 4-session program. Anxiety, panic, burnout, trauma, low mood and OCD usually need 6 to 12 sessions. Quitting smoking or vaping is one 90-minute session with 12 months of support. These are typical ranges, not promises. Your first session runs up to 90 minutes, and follow-up sessions up to 60 minutes.

Is it safe? Are there any downsides?

For most adults, yes. You stay aware throughout. Some people feel a little drowsy afterwards, so take a few quiet minutes before driving. If you have a serious mental health condition such as psychosis, please talk to me and your doctor first. Hypnotherapy may not be the right fit.

Is what I tell you confidential?

Yes. What you tell me stays between us. The only exception applies to any practitioner: if I believed you or someone else was at serious risk of harm, I would act on it. Your information is handled under my privacy policy and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Do I need to stop seeing my GP or psychologist?

No. Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy. It works alongside your GP or psychologist, not instead of them. Please don’t change any medication without talking to your doctor.

How do I choose a qualified online hypnotherapist?

Hypnotherapy isn’t a registered profession in Australia, so ask about their training and memberships. A clear total price and an honest answer about evidence are good signs too. My memberships are on the About page.

What’s the difference between a hypnotist and a hypnotherapist?

A hypnotist usually uses hypnosis to entertain, for example in a stage show. A hypnotherapist uses it in private, with your consent, to help with a problem you’ve chosen to work on. Neither title is regulated in Australia.

Who do you see?

Adults aged 18 and over, anywhere in Australia. If you’re looking for help for a child or teenager, your GP or school counsellor is the right first step.

What happens on the free call?

Fifteen minutes by phone. You tell me what’s going on and I ask a few questions. Then I tell you plainly whether I think I can help and what it would cost. If I don’t think I’m the right person, I’ll say so.
